HANOI, Vietnam -- Vietnamese transport minister Dao Dinh Binh has written a letter of resignation on Monday, VietnamNet newswire reported Tuesday. The decision came after Prime Minister Phan Van Khai asked him to review his responsibility in the Project Management Unit No. 18 (PMU18) scandal.

In the resignation letter, he wrote: “I am very sorrowful, and I take full responsibility for cases at the Ministry of Transport, at the Project Management Unit No. 18 (PMU18) regarding infrastructure construction. Therefore, as the leader of the ministry, I ask for resignation as transport minister and secretary of the party's Civil Affairs Committee of the Transport Ministry. And, I want to withdrawn from the list of delegates to the upcoming 10th National Congressof the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)," the newswire reported. |

Dao Dinh Binh took office at the Ministry of Transport in 2002 and if the letter is approved, he will be the second minister to offer a resignation after Le Huy Ngo, ex-minister of the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry who submitted his resignation letter to the PM in April 2004.
